shifting problem + changing lubes

i got a cheap project r3 with 2500 miles dropped a few times and sat for 5 years before me (weird loan thing owner bought it for his roommate). i jumped the battery and it powered up but it wouldnt shift into first from neutral only into what felt like 4th with the sensor showing blank (bent clutch lever from drops). it started on the third try but i shut it off fast old fuel and oil might hurt it. im cleaning the fuel injectors now waiting on oil and a battery to arrive anyone had this or got tips? will an oil change lube the transmission enough to fix it?

You can check the shift linkage between the transmission and the shift pedal, make sure the the rod is not bent. also have you tried to get the gears aligned?

Ok, the clutch might not be fully disengaging with the bent lever, which ends up messing up your shifts. Fresh oil definitely helps. Cleaning injectors is also a good step. Keep us posted how it goes!

Good catch! That bent lever can definitely cause some sneaky problems. Glad you're on it. Let us know if the new oil and injector clean do the trick

Love a good rescue bike story! I bet the old oil and stuck clutch aren't helping. Once you swap the oil and fix the lever, it might surprise you.

Yes, sitting that long can gum things up. Theyre right fresh oil might help loosen the transmission a bit, but make sure the bent clutch lever isn't messing with full disengagement. Once youve got clean fuel, new oil, and a good battery in, it might shift fine, just be patient and don't force anything.

Yeah, fresh oil can absolutely help lubricate the transmission internals and free things up. Let it circulate for a bit once you get it running
